The Travel Risk & Incident Prevention (TRIP) Group have this week announced the appointment of the former Head of the Counter Terrorist Unit at Ministry of Defence, Major General (Retired) Chip Chapman CB, to their expert advisory board. Mr Chapman is recognised and respected globally for his expertise in counter terrorism and has an impressive background, which lends itself to the TRIP Group and their mission to improve education on matters relating to travel risk management.

Chip joined the Parachute regiment in 1981, and commanded 6 Platoon, B Company during the Falklands war. He served in numerous operational theatres and instructed at both the Army and Joint Services Staff Colleges. His final 10 years of military service were mainly involved in counter-terrorism, working closely with UK and international agencies to counter international terrorist threats, including Al-Qaeda and laterly ISIS.

Speaking of the appointment, Chief Executive of the TRIP Group, Lloyd Figgins said, “Chip is a fantastic addition to our expert advisory board. The purpose of the board is to provide our members and partners with access to genuine expertise in key specialist areas of travel risk management in order to help them operate safely. Chip brings a wealth of unrivalled knowledge and expertise.”

Mr Figgins went on to say, “There are very few people who have Chip’s insight into a world most people know very little about, let alone have the ability and knowledge to analyse very complex situations. He brings experience that’s genuinely world class and this really enhances what we are able to provide our members and partners. We’re absolutely delighted to have him on the team.”

Chip’s military career concluded  with an appointment as Senior British Military Advisor to United States Central Command in Tampa, Florida responsible for geo-political and geo-strategic analysis and contingency planning in the Middle East, where he worked alongside General James Mattis. He retired from the military in 2013 after 33 years service.

Speaking of his appointment, Chip Chapman said, “I’m really looking forward to working with the TRIP Group and using my experience to improve education and knowledge in my areas of specialisation. It’s great to be part of such an interactive and forward-thinking group.”

Chip’s post military career has included writing a successful book, Notes From A Small Military, and authoring  The Chapman Review – a strategic analysis of Police Discipline in England and Wales for the Home Office which was laid before the Westminster parliament in December 2014. He has further consulted on strategy execution and high performance team development.  Most recently, he has been a regular expert on TV/radio (Sky News, BBC News, CNN, RTE, BBC Radio stations and ITV Good Morning Britain)  as an analyst/commentator on terrorism, radicalisation, cyber, Counter-Terrorist policies and Middle East strategies.

The TRIP Group is home to one of the world’s fastest growing travel risk management communities. A membership organisation, united in their mission to keep travellers safe. They connect their community, not only to the current threats, but also to the future of travel risk.
